Heinz Zubek

Heinz Zubek (born June 16, 1950 in Lobenstein ) was a football player in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the GDR football association . There he played for the BSG Wismut Gera .

Athletic career

At the age of eight, Zubek began to play football for the Empor Lobenstein company sports association . In addition, he discovered his interest in athletics and in 1963 was delegated by his BSG to the children's and youth sports school Bad Blankenburg , where he was to be trained as a sprinter. At the age of 18, Zubek returned to football and played for BSG Wismut Aue until 1972 . There he did not make it, however, to play in the league team, so that he was delegated to BSG Wismut Gera for the 1972/73 season. With Zubek, the Gera team developed into a top team in the second-rate GDR league. In 1974 and 1975 they failed in the promotion rounds to the GDR Oberliga, but in 1977 they were promoted to the first class. Zubek had already become Gera's second-best goalscorer behind Udo Korn (11) with nine goals in 1974 , in the 1976/77 promotion season he scored 17 championship goals as the best Gera and thus reached third place in the GDR league goalscorer list. Zubek was involved in the promotion with 28 of 30 championship and promotion games, in the promotion round he scored three more goals in the eight games.

In the league season 1977/78 Zubeck was first used in the first five league games as a striker, then he was only called up irregularly until the 14th matchday. For the rest of the season he no longer played in the 1st team. Since Wismut Gera was relegated from the league again after a year, Zubek was only used in twelve league games, the regular striker scored his only league goal on matchday 11 in the encounter Hallescher FC Chemie - Wismut Gera when he scored 2: 4 -Defeat achieved the interim equalization to 1: 1.

Zubek stayed with Wismut Gera even after relegation and played with the team for another six seasons in the GDR league. For the 1981/82 season he was appointed team captain and finished the season with 22 goals again as the top scorer of the GDR league. In the 1983/84 season he was only used in the first half of the season, after which he ended his career as a football player in the performance area at the age of 33. In addition to his job as an engineer and economist, he was then a junior manager, managing director and head of the football section at Wismut Gera. In 1987 he moved to BSG Elektronik Gera, where in 1990 he played a major role in the restructuring to FC Blau Weiss. He then worked for a year as the club's chairman and later as its deputy chairman.
