Udo Korn (born December 15, 1951 ) was a football player in the GDR upper league . There he played for both FC Carl Zeiss Jena and BSG Wismut Gera .

Athletic career

At the age of nine, Korn was accepted into the children's team of the company sports association (BSG) Wismut Gera. He stayed with Wismut until he was 23 and last played in the second-rate GDR league . In 1974 he shot the Geraer as the top scorer of his team with eleven hits to win the season, but they failed in the promotion round to the league. After Wismut lost again in the promotion round in 1975, Korn moved to the region’s football focus, the major league club FC Carl Zeiss Jena, in the summer of that year.

In Jena, Korn couldn't get beyond the role of a substitute player. He made his first league debut in the 58th minute of the second match day on August 27, 1975 in the match between FC Carl Zeiss and FC Karl-Marx-Stadt (5-0). After two more substitutions on the 3rd and 4th matchday, he was on the 12th matchday at the away game at Chemie Leipzig (2-1 win) as a midfielder for the first time in the starting eleven, but was substituted after the first half. He then represented Helmut Stein , who had been called up to the army, for 90 minutes as a sweeper between the 21st and 23rd matchday . After this one-year interlude with only seven league appearances, Korn was delegated back to BSG Wismut Gera.

In the 1975/76 season, Wismut was able to maintain its second place in the top of the GDR league. In the following season again with Udo Korn, the team was again the season winner and reached the league promotion in the third attempt since 1974 as second in the promotion round. Korn was instrumental in this success with 25 point and promotion games. Especially in the promotion round, he had trumped with his five goals. The league season 1977/78 was a disaster for Wismut Gera, with only one win out of 21 defeats they rose from the league after only one year. Korn began the season as a Libero, but was used from the 8th matchday on as a striker and scored nine of the seventeen Wismut goals in 22 league games as the top scorer of his team.

Then Korn played until the end of the first half of the 1981/82 season with Wismut Gera in the GDR league. He later worked as a football coach. In 2008 he led the bismut successor FV Gera Süd in the sixth class Thuringia league .
