Football career

Beginnings

On January 31, 1912, the Neustädter Turnverein founded a soccer game department. In 1921 the footballers of the gymnastics club joined the Neustadt-Langburkersdorfer Sportclub (NLSC), which was founded after the First World War. On the sports field Friedrich-Mildner-Straße they took part in the games in the 2nd district class. In 1930, the football and women's handball departments separated from the NLSC and founded the Neustadt game association. In 1932, the soccer team won the II-b class championship in the Oberlausitz soccer district.

Based on Directive No. 23 of the Allied Control Council of the Occupying Powers, all sports clubs were dissolved on January 1, 1946. Sports competitions were only allowed to be carried out in a loosely organized form at district level. In Neustadt, the Soviet local commander approved the game for a soccer team in July 1945, after which the Neustadt sports community was founded. On July 3, 1947, she put the sports field on Wilhelm-Kaulisch-Strasse into operation. However, the team did not initially get beyond the level of the district league. After the reorganization of East German sport on the level of company sports associations (BSG), BSG Stahl Neustadt was founded in the summer of 1949 under the sponsorship of the Neustadt agricultural machinery plant. Later renamed BSG Motor, it competed with the existing SG Neustadt.

It was not until 1957 that the decision was made to concentrate efforts and both communities were merged under the name BSG Einheit Neustadt. Even after the merger, they continued to play in the district class, and it was not until 1963 that they were promoted to the district class (4th division). In 1970 the agricultural machinery manufacturer's stadium with a capacity of 6,000 was inaugurated as a new venue. In order to emphasize the sponsorship of the combine agricultural machinery progress more clearly, the BSG adopted the name BSG Progress in the same year.

Ascent with Kern and Co.

In 1976 the former league player Joachim Kern from Dynamo Dresden took over the training of the Neustädter. With him the most successful phase of the team began. In 1978 he was promoted to the Dresden District League. In 1981, the 21-time national player Peter Kotte, who was excluded from Dynamo Dresden for attempting to flee the republic, joined the team. With him, the district championship was won in 1982. Neustadt had thus qualified for the second-rate GDR league , but had to do without Kotte, who was banned from the 1st and 2nd league for life. The rest of the squad was not suitable for the second division, and so the team rose at the end of the 1982/83 season as bottom of the table back from the district league. Although Kotte was now entitled to play again and the four-time national player Matthias Müller , who was excluded for the same reasons as Kotte in Dresden, was added, Neustadt was no longer able to climb into the GDR league. Although they were district champions in 1985, 1988 and 1989, the team failed each time in the promotion rounds. In 1989, another major league player played for a few months with goalkeeper Jens Ramme at progress (12 times at Dynamo Dresden, later 5 times at progress Bischofswerda).

Municipal sports club

After the political turning point in 1989, the support for sports by the agricultural machinery combine ceased, so that the company sports community had to be transferred to a different structure. In 1990, former BSG members founded the municipal sports club progress Neustadt, which dropped the addition progress in 1996 after the liquidation of the agricultural machinery factory and from 2002 appeared as SSV Neustadt / Hohwald. In the 1990/91 game year, the soccer team was incorporated into the then third-class state league of Saxony. After a 2nd, 11th and 14th place, the relegation to the Dresden District League had to be accepted in 1993 after the reorganization of the 6th division. The team stayed there until they were promoted to the district league again in 2002. Since 2006 the SSV Neustadt has been playing in the district class again. In the 2017/2018 season, SSV Neustadt / Sachsen under coach Udo Schmuck won the KVF Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge district cup after a 2-1 win over 1. FC Pirna.
