Frank Kühne (born October 30, 1957 ) is a former German soccer player. For 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig and BSG Chemie Leipzig he played in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

Coming from the company sports association (BSG) Up Wurzen , Frank Kühne was GDR junior champion in 1974 with 1. FC Lok Leipzig . While Kühne was only involved in winning the title with a few appearances as a substitute, he was part of the regular squad in the junior team as a striker in the 1974/75 season. When 1. FC Lok became junior champions again in 1976, Frank Kühne had played in all 26 junior league games and was Leipzig's second best scorer with fifteen goals . For the 1976/77 season Kühne was taken over in the youth team of Lok Leipzig, where he was in the youth league until 1981continued to play in attack. On April 11, 1981 he came to his first assignment in the GDR league. In the match of the 20th matchday 1. FC Lok - Chemie Leipzig (0-0) he was substituted on in the 30th minute for the injured center forward Dieter Kühn . It was his only league game for 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig.

For the 1981/82 season, Frank Kühne moved to city rivals Chemie Leipzig. There was mostly a substitute player with fourteen of 22 possible appearances and one goal. As early as 1982/83 he was a regular as a striker. He played all 22 league games and scored nine goals. As the season winner, Chemie Leipzig successfully participated in the promotion to the league. Kühne was used in all eight promotion games and scored the most goals of his team with his four goals. In his second league season, Kühne played only seven games in the first half of the season, in which he was only a substitute.

During the winter break in 1984, Frank Kühne moved to the league relegated BSG Chemie Böhlen , where other former players from Leipzig were already part of the squad. Kühne was used in all eight remaining league games on the right attacking side and scored a goal. He played in Bohlen until 1988 , played 98 out of 144 GDR league games and scored fourteen goals. He was always used as a striker on either the right or left side. As a 30-year-old, he played his last GDR league season in 1987/88, in which the left winger played 22 out of 34 point games. For the 1988/89 season he had been nominated again for the league team, but was no longer used. He also did not appear in the higher leagues later.
