Volkmar Raabe (born September 25, 1955 ) is a former German soccer player. For BSG Stahl Riesa he played from 1975 to 1981 in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

At the age of 18, Volkmar Raabe began his career in the GDR-wide football game in the 1973/74 season with the 2nd team of the company sports community (BSG) Stahl Riesa. This played at that time in the second-rate GDR league , and Raabe was used in four league games. At the end of the season, the team was relegated to the Dresden District League . For the season 1974/75 Raabe was nominated for the league team, but he was only used in the second half of the season in ten point games as a midfielder for the long-term injured Johann Ehl . He had previously played in the district league team, which then played again in the GDR league from 1975/76. There Raabe was only called up three times, because in the meantime he had established himself as a regular player in the top division. Of the 26 league games of the 1975/76 season, he played 20 games, continuing to play in midfield, and came to his first two league goals. Without being used again in the league, he had to do 18-month military service in the National People's Army in November 1976 . When he was released in April 1978, he returned to BSG Stahl Riesa, which was represented in the GDR league after being relegated in 1977. As a season winner, the team took part in the promotion round to the league, in which Raabe could still play three of the eight qualifying games and contribute one goal to promotion. Riesa was able to assert himself again in the league for three seasons, and Raabe also successfully defended his regular position. By the 1980/81 season he was used 61 times in the 78 league games. From 1981/82 Stahl Riesa played again in the GDR league for two years.

After Raabe was only used in four league games in 1982/83, he left the BSG Stahl Riesa and switched to the GDR league team activist Black Pump . There he was able to complete all 22 point games in 1983/84, but was only used two or three times in the league games in the two following seasons. For the second half of the 1985/86 season, Raabe helped out in ten games at the relegation-threatened GDR league club BSG activist Brieske Senftenberg until the end of the season , but could not save Brieske from relegation. He then returned to BSG Black Pump, where he played 24 games in the GDR league in two more seasons. In the summer of 1988 Volkmar Raabe ended his career in higher-class football, where he had been active for 14 years and had played 91 league games (8 goals), 90 GDR league games (2 goals) and eight league promotion games (1 goal).
