Johann Ehl

Johann Ehl (born October 8, 1940 ) is a former German football player who played for BSG Stahl Riesa between 1968 and 1975 in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

Johann Ehl began his way in nationwide GDR football in the third-class II. GDR League . In 1963, when the II. League was discontinued, he rose with the company sports association (BSG) Stahl Riesa in the GDR League , formerly the I GDR League. In the following five GDR league seasons, Ehl always had a regular place with the Riesaers, he was called up 125 times in the 150 point games played. In the 1967/68 season, BSG Stahl made it to the top division. There she was initially represented in four seasons in which Ehl was only absent from a point game. After initial attempts in midfield, he was soon generally used as a defender. In 1970 he was appointed team captain for the first time. After the 1971/72 season Stahl Riesa was relegated back to the GDR league, but managed to get promoted again immediately. Ehl was involved in all 22 league games and in five of the eight promotion games, and he also scored a total of six goals. With Stahl Riesa he played two more seasons in the league. He completed his last league season in 1974/75, in which he was used in ten league games in the first half of the season, but then only played for his last league game on matchday 21. After playing for one more season with Stahl Riesa's second team in the GDR league, he retired from competitive sports at the age of 36. In 13 seasons in higher-class football, he had played 140 league games, scoring two goals as a defensive player and was called up 161 times in the GDR league, where he scored eleven times. In 2012 he was elected an honorary member by the successor club to the company sports community, the Stahl Riesa Ball Sports Association.
