Hans-Jörg Leitzke (born December 27, 1960 ) is a former German soccer player and soccer coach. As a player, he was active in the 1980s for BSG Chemie Leipzig and 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football . He was twice a GDR Cup winner with 1. FC Lok.

Athletic career

Soccer player

At the age of eight, Hans-Jörg Leitzke was accepted into the children's area of the company sports association (BSG) Chemie Leipzig in 1969. After he had last played for BSG Chemie in the junior league, he was taken over into the squad of the first men's team for the 1980/81 season. This had just been relegated from the league and now spent three seasons in the second-rate GDR league . In 1980/81 Leitzke played eleven point games. He was initially used in the first seven games as a right winger, but then he was only called up sporadically in four other league games. In 1981/82 he only played the eight league games in the second half of the season, but with his four goals he also scored as a goal scorer. In the 1982/83 season he finally became a regular player, of the 22 league games he played 21 games and with his seven goals was also instrumental in the chemists' relay victory. In the subsequent promotion round Leitzke was called up in all eight games and contributed three goals to the promotion success. In his first league season 1983/84 he only missed a point game and was used both as a right and left winger. His four goals together with Joachim Fritsche made it the top scorer. At the end of the season, Chemie Leipzig had to go into relegation with 1. FC Union Berlin tied for points and goals , which Leipzig won 1: 1 and 2: 1. Leitzke was in both games and scored the decisive goal. Leitzke played his most league games in the 1984/85 season. He was used in all 26 games and scored six goals with which he was now the sole top scorer. However, he could not prevent the descent of BSG Chemie from the league.

In order to maintain his league status, Leitzke moved to the 1985/86 season for city rivals 1. FC Lok Leipzig. In the team with several national players, he was unable to take on a leading role as usual and was repeatedly the object of substitutions in his 22 league games, so that he could only complete thirteen full-length matches. Even with his three goals, he couldn't stand out. This season 1. FC Lok also took part in the UEFA Cup, where they faced Coleraine FC (Northern Ireland; 1: 1, 5: 0) and AC Milan (0: 2, 3: 1). Leitzke was in all four games and scored one goal against every opponent. He finally got his first title win this season, because he was in the cup final, which Leipzig won 5-1 over Union Berlin . In 1986/87 Leitzke formed a successful storm trio as right winger with Hans Richter and Dieter Kühn , who scored 50 percent of Leipzig's top division goals with 17 goals. Leitzke, who was only missing twice in the league, was involved with six goals. He won the cup for the second time in 1987, but did not come onto the field until the 84th minute, but immediately scored the 4-1 winning goal against Hansa Rostock . His other appearances this season also include the nine games in the European Cup Winners' Cup, with which 1. FC Lok made it to the final. There the Leipzig lost 0-1 to Ajax Amsterdam , Leitzke came on in the 55th minute, when the goal had already been conceded. In 1987/88 Leitzke made 25 league appearances, started 20 times, but only played twelve games over 90 minutes. Playing on the right winger as usual, he scored five goals. After winning the cup in 1987, 1. FC Lok played again in the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1987/88. Against Olympique Marseille they were eliminated after 0-0 and 0-1 in the first round, Leitzke had been used in both games. In 1988/89 Leitzke only played a minor role under coach Hans-Ulrich Thomale . Up to the 15th matchday he was used in ten league games, but was only three times in the starting line-up, played only twice and only scored one goal.

In view of this situation, Leitzke returned to Chemie Leipzig in March 1989, where they still played in the GDR league. Leitzke was immediately integrated into the Chemiker's game, played all twelve league games from the 23rd to the 34th and final match day and was able to confirm his old shooting qualities with six goals. In 1989/90 he only missed one GDR league match and was the top scorer of his team with nine goals. At the beginning of the 1990/91 season, the former soccer sections of Chemie Leipzig and Chemie Böhlen merged to form FC Sachsen Leipzig. This took over the place of Böhlen in the league, which last functioned as the highest division. Leitzke was also part of the FC Sachsen squad after the merger and played 24 of the 26 point games. With six goals he was again top scorer of his team. In twelfth place in the table, FC Sachsen took part in the qualifying games for the 2nd Bundesliga , but could not qualify. In the six games Leitzke was used four times and scored one goal. Due to the missed qualification, the FC Sachsen was integrated into the newly created third-class football Oberliga Nordost (from 1994 football regional league ) in the DFB league system . Leitzke played there until 1996. In his last season in 1995/96 he was still a regular at FC Sachsen, played 31 of the 34 league games and scored eight more goals.

Then Hans-Jörg Leitzke ended his career as a professional footballer at the age of 35. On August 27, 1996, FC Sachsen hosted a farewell game for its long-time player between FC and a “chemistry selection” compiled by Leitzke. He then joined the FSV Grün / Weiß Eilenburg , where he operated recreational football in the 7th league.

coach

From 2000 Leitzke worked as a coach at FC Sachsen Leipzig . There he trained the second team in the national league . In September 2003 he was briefly responsible as an interim coach for the first team that was back in the regional league. From August 2004 he was also assistant coach of the first team. On October 19, 2005, he took over the post of head coach at Chemie as successor to Wolfgang Frank . He had to give up this position on October 5, 2006 to Eduard Geyer and switched back to the position of assistant coach. When Geyer was fired for financial reasons in July 2007, Leitzke was reappointed head coach. On May 6, 2008 Leitzke was dismissed as coach of FC Sachsen. From July 2009 until his release on March 23, 2010, Leitzke was Thomas Koehler's successor as coach at VfB Pößneck in the Northeast Football League. Since 2012 he has been working as a youth and meanwhile men's trainer for FSV Großpösna .
