Uwe Schleier (born January 2, 1963 ) is a former German football player who played in 1984 with BSG Chemie Leipzig in the GDR Oberliga , the highest league in GDR football .

Athletic career

At the age of eight, Uwe Schleier was accepted into the children's team of the company sports association (BSG) Chemie Leipzig. Before he was eligible to play for the men's division, he played for the BSG Chemie in the GDR junior league. For the 1981/82 season he was included in the squad of the first men's team, which at that time played in the second-rate GDR league. In his first two seasons, Schleier had only a minor role in the league team and only played six or two point games.

In 1983, Schleier was drafted into reservist service in the National People's Army for twelve months . From October to December 1983 he was given the opportunity to play nine games in the GDR league with the army sports community Vorwärts Dessau . He was used as a midfielder. He was not in the starting line-up in only one game, but scored his only goal in this encounter in the 6-1 victory of Dessau.

After his release from the NVA, Schleier returned to the BSG Chemie Leipzig, which had meanwhile been promoted to the top division. He could still be used in the last three league games and played twice in attack, once in midfield. In the league season 1984/85 Schleier was only a substitute. In his nine league appearances, he was only five times in the starting line-up and only played two games over the full length of the game. He was also used in the two round of 16 games of the GDR soccer cup in Leipzig, where he played a 90-minute encounter.

Chemie Leipzig ended the 1984/85 season as relegated and spent the following five seasons back in the GDR league. Schleier was always part of the team until 1989 and played 80 of the 136 league games played during this time. He had his most successful season in 1987/88, in which he, mainly called up as a defender, was missing in the 34 point games only twice and was successful with five goals.

In the summer of 1989 Schleier ended his career at Chemie Leipzig and joined the GDR league club TSG Markkleeberg , where he only played six of the 34 league games. Then he let his football career come to an end with the lower class SSV Baufa Eutritzsch .
