The ball sports club Eintracht Sondershausen is a football club in the district town of the northern Thuringian Kyffhäuserkreis Sondershausen .
Development of football in Sondershausen
Beginnings
Even before the First World War, the first pure football club called Sportklub Schwarzburg 1911 was founded on October 20, 1911 in the city, which then had 15,000 inhabitants. Until the end of World War II, the club played in second- or third-rate leagues on a regional level.
New beginning after 1945
Due to Directive No. 23 of the Allied Control Council of the Occupying Powers on the prohibition of sports clubs, sport had to be reorganized in Sondershausen as well. Initially, a sports community Sondershausen was established, which according to the provisions of Directive No. 23 could only hold competitions at district level. In 1948/49, the Thuringia regional class started playing football, where a ZSG Industrie Sondershausen was represented. With the restructuring of East German sport in the form of company sports associations (BSG), the two company sports associations Motor (inner city) and Aktivist ( Jecha district) were created in Sondershausen . After the introduction of the third-class football district league in Erfurt in 1952, both BSG were represented there, but in 1953 the BSG Motor had to relegate to the district class, followed by the BSG Aktivist in 1955.
Company sports community Glückauf
In 1957 it was decided to bundle the sports operations in Sondershausen, and motor and activist merged on September 1, 1957 to form the new BSG Eintracht Sondershausen. For the two football teams involved, this was linked to the fact that the merger took place in the middle of the season (at that time the season corresponded to the calendar year). It is not known how this affected the game. The BSG name "Eintracht", however, did not fit into the scheme of GDR sport, and so the BSG had to rename itself to "Einheit Mitte" after just two and a half months. According to the carrier operating system, the new name indicated that the BSG was sponsored by the local state administrations. However, since the Sondershausen potash plant later took over the role of the carrier operation , this was expressed with another renaming to BSG Glückauf. Thanks to the economically strong sponsoring company, Glückauf was promoted to the district league, which was fourth-class at the time, but had to be abandoned after two seasons. After rising again in 1971, the team was able to establish itself long-term in the now third-rate district league.
Second rate for seven years
In 1980 Glückauf Sondershausen became district champion and qualified for the second-rate GDR league . In the next few years, numerous former players from the upper division club FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt , which is about 60 kilometers away, joined the team, so that they could remain in the second division over a period of seven seasons. In the 1983/84 season Glückauf was able to achieve the best result with third place in the league season E. Until shortly before the end of the season, the team was still at the top, before Suhl and Nordhausen were able to pass by a 1-0 defeat against BSG Kali Werra three game days before the end of the season. The trainer Manfred Willing, who has been in Sondershausen since 1978 and a former top division player of BSG Chemie Zeitz , used 19 players in the 22 point games. But he could rely on a constant team, of which seven players played over 90 percent of all matches. The starting eleven with an average age of 26.5 years had the following appearance:
Klaus Berger (22 games / 24 years) |
Axel Vollroth (22/22) |
Harald Brosselt (22/27), Karl-Heinz Schmidt (22/28), Bernd Rommel (16/34) |
Volker Göttlich (19/28), Ulrich Kufs (19/24), Roland Garthof (21/25) |
Olaf Roß (21/24), Lutz Hartung (22/28), Armin Schmidt (16/27) |
In the top game against local rivals Motor Nordhausen , 6100 visitors came to the sports center "Am Göldner", which at that time had a capacity of 7000. The average number of spectators in this successful season was 2800. In the line-up for the 1986/87 season there were six players who were 30 or more years old, and the requirements in the GDR league had increased after the reduction from five to two seasons. At the end of the season, Glückauf landed with only six wins in 34 games on the 17th and penultimate place in league season B and had to relegate to the district league. The subsequent district championship remained without value, as the team clearly failed in the promotion round as the last. Until the end of the GDR soccer operation, Sondershausen remained third class.
First division player in Sondershausen
While only two players, André Brückner and Jens Ramme, made the leap from Sondershausen to the highest GDR football class, the GDR Oberliga , many players took the opposite route and mostly ended their football career in Sondershausen:

Ball sports club Sondershausen
When the economic situation in East Germany changed dramatically after the political change in 1989 , most company sports associations lost the support they had received from their previous sponsoring companies. In Sondershausen, too, they were forced to reorganize the BSG Glückauf. After the BSG was transformed into the Glückauf sports club in 1990, members of the former soccer section of the BSG and the members of the BSG Elektro Sondershausen founded the Eintracht Sondershausen ball sports club on April 30, 1991. With the start of the DFB game operation , Sondershausen was incorporated into the newly created regional league Thuringia. Mostly placed in the top half, the BSV managed to move up to the fourth-class Oberliga Nordost in 2000 . There the special houses met such traditional teams as Dynamo Dresden , 1. FC Magdeburg , Hallescher FC or FSV Zwickau . Eintracht was able to assert itself for five years in the upper league, but rose again in 2005 in the Thuringian League (formerly Landesliga). There, Eintracht won the championship in the 2009/10 season. For financial reasons, however, the right to promotion to the league was waived.
A special curiosity marked a game against SV Motor Altenburg on October 15, 2011. Two games were played during the 90 minutes: a league game in the Thuringian League and a round of 16 game in the TFV Cup . For reasons of cost, the teams decided to carry out the upcoming scheduling in both competitions in this way. Altenburg saved travel costs, Sondershausen referee and ancillary costs. The game ended 2: 3 (1: 3), with which Altenburg moved into the quarter-finals of the state cup and received three points in the championship.
In 2011/12 BSV Eintracht was runner-up in the Thuringian League. As two years before, the club waived promotion to the league. At the end of March 2013, the club announced that it would not make use of its promotion rights to the league in the current season.
The club's 25th anniversary was celebrated in the 2015/2016 season. At the same time the descent from the Thuringian League had to be started. However, a historic victory in the cup against Carl Zeiss Jena succeeded in the national class time, this opponent could be defeated in a thrilling game with 1-0 for the first time in the club's history. For the 2018/2019 season they rose again to the Thuringian League, and it was announced that the Göldner would be modernized soon.
