Athletic career

After the GDR junior national team became runner -up at the UEFA junior tournament in 1973 , a new selection was made in June, including Hans-Christian Kaubitzsch from 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig . He played the first two internationals of the new selection, in which he was used as a defender. The 1. FC Lok then took him on in the GDR league team Lok Leipzig II, for which he completed three point games in 1973/74. With the junior team of 1. FC Lok, Kaubitzsch won the championship in the junior league in 1974 .

In the 1974/75 season, the 1.77 m tall Kaubitzsch was already a regular in the 2nd team, because he was used 17 times in the 22 games played and scored two goals. Since the team ended the season as relegated, Kaubitzsch then played in the third-rate district league and 1976/77 in the newly established junior league .

Since it was not possible Kaubitzsch to recommend himself for the league team, he was given up for the 1977/78 season to the league team Chemie Böhlen . There he was used in twelve league games until April 1978. He was in the starting line-up eight times and was mainly used as a defender. In May 1978 he was drafted into the National People's Army for 18 months . When he was released in October 1979, Chemie Böhlen was already playing the second season in the second-rate GDR league, but rose again to the top division at the end of the season. Kaubitzsch was still involved with six point games. In his second league season in 1980/81, Kaubitzsch was used as a midfielder from the 4th matchday on, had a break of several months after the 10th matchday and only came to three league games at the end of the season. Since Chemie Böhlen did not manage to stay in the league, Kaubitzsch found himself again in the GDR league for the 1981/82 season, but did not get more than six league matches.

During the 1981/82 season, Kaubitzsch moved to league competitor Chemie Leipzig, where he only played two point games by the end of the season. It was not until the 1982/83 season that he made the leap into the Leipzig team. In 22 point games and eight promotion games that led to the return to the league, Kaubitzsch was used 20 times and also scored a goal. In his third league season 1983/84 he was initially used by coach Wolfgang Müller regularly and mainly as a defender. When Müller was replaced by Gerd Struppert after eight match days , Kaubitzsch only came on twice in the first half of the season as a substitute. After he was no longer called up in the second half of the season, he ended his career in higher-class football.
