Sancia van der Meij

Sancia Esmeralda Theonilla van der Meij (* 1981 in Groningen ) is a Dutch biologist who specializes in the diversity of coral reefs .

Life

Van der Meij grew up in Roden in the province of Drenthe and attended the Atheneum (grammar school) in Groningen before she spent some time in South America in 1999 . After returning to the Netherlands, she obtained her Bachelor of Science from the Van Hall Instituut in Leeuwarden and her Master of Science in Biology in 2007 from the University of Leiden . From 2008 she worked as a research assistant at Naturalis in Leiden and obtained her Ph.D. in 2015. at the University of Leiden with a thesis on gall crabs (Cryptochiridae). Van der Meij was then a research fellow at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History under the direction of Paul Smith , before she accepted a position as assistant professor at the University of Groningen .
