Athletic career

The national sports press of the GDR first took notice of Veit Gläßer when the 19-year-old striker played two point games in the second-rate GDR league for the army sports community (ASG) Vorwärts Dessau in the 1975/76 season and in the promotion round to the GDR upper league seven out of eight games was used. In the promotion games, in which the ASG was the last to be unsuccessful, Gläßer also scored his first goal in the national league. After he had completed all 14 GDR league games for Vorwärts Dessau in the 1976/77 season until the winter break, Gläßer was delegated to the central football club of the army sports association Vorwärts FC Vorwärts Frankfurt (Oder), where he only made two short appearances at the beginning of the second half of the season had at league games. For the 1977/78 season he returned to Vorwärts Dessau, where he established himself as a regular player until 1980. Within three seasons he was missing in the GDR league only in two point games and came in the 64 missions on 38 goals. In 1979 and 1980 he was Dessau's top scorer with 12 and 18 goals respectively. After he was used in only seven league games in 1980/81, Gläßer moved to the GDR league club BSG Chemie Leipzig , where he played all 22 point games in the 1981/82 season and again became the best scorer of his team with twelve goals. In the following season he could only play one league game. While Chemie Leipzig made it to the league, Gläßer joined the GDR league club Stahl Nordwest Leipzig . There he was used in 21 of the 22 league games in 1983/84 and was once again top scorer with 16 goals. Since the new GDR league season was reduced from five to two seasons, Stahl Nordwest failed to stay in the league and was relegated to the third-rate district league . Neither Stahl Nordwest nor Veit Gläßer returned to the higher division. Within nine seasons, Gläßer made two league games (without a goal) and 131 GDR league games (68 goals). He also played in seven promotion games in which he scored a goal.
