Athletic career

Horst Kittel played his first point games in higher-class football at the age of 19 at the Army Sports Club (ASK) Vorwärts Cottbus in the 1961/62 season. The ASK played in the second-rate GDR league , Kittel was used nine times in the 39 games played (change from calendar to summer-spring game rhythm) and scored his first four goals. In 1962/63 Kittel was already a regular player and scored 17 goals in his 24 league appearances (from 26). The ASK had become the Army Sports Association (ASG) this season. Of the 30 league games played in 1963/64, Kittel played 26 games, but only got seven hits. After a total of 59 GDR league appearances and 28 goals, he left Vorwärts Cottbus and joined the company sports community (BSG) Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt, which was also represented in the GDR league. His fifth Eisenhüttenstadt season in 1968/69 was crowned with promotion to the East German league. His 20 goals, with which Kittel also became the top scorer in the Northern League season, also contributed to this. In the league season 1969/70 he played all 26 point games, but only scored three times. Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt had to be relegated from the league after just one year. Since the BSG found serious violations of the association's statutes, the football team was downgraded to the third-class district league for the 1970/71 season . However, you immediately succeeded in advancing to the GDR league. There Kittel completed another three seasons, in which he played 65 games out of 66 point games. After becoming BSG Stahl's top scorer again with ten goals in 1971/72, he only scored seven goals until 1974. After the 1973/74 season, he ended his career as a competitive footballer. Within twelve seasons he had come to 26 league games with three goals and 271 GDR league games with 106 goals.
