Since the BSG Motor did not manage to stay in the league , they played in the second GDR league in the two following seasons , but returned to the first GDR league in 1962. In the 1962/63 season, Bätz played twelve games out of 26 league games. In May 1963 he was drafted into the National People's Army for 18 months . During this time he was able to play football in the GDR League (II. League was discontinued) with the Army Sports Association (ASG) Vorwärts Cottbus , but was only used there in nine point games in the 1963/64 season. When he returned to Steinach in November 1964, BSG Motor was already playing its second season in the GDR league. In the second half of the 1964/65 season Bätz came to three missions. At the end of the season, Motor Steinach had to relegate back to the GDR league. Bätz was a member of the squad until 1971. With the exception of the season 1967/68, in which he played only four point games, he was always part of the team. This was also the case in his last GDR league season in 1970/71, in which he completed 25 out of 30 league games and scored another goal. When he ended his career as a competitive athlete in the summer of 1971, he had a record of three league games and 166 GDR league games with 14 goals.
