Meinhard Uentz (born July 9, 1938 in Woldegk ) is a former German football player who u. a. worked for SC Neubrandenburg and 1. FC Union Berlin in the GDR Oberliga .

Player career

Uentz spent his first football years at BSG Turbine Neubrandenburg, which changed twice during his time, in 1961 in SC Neubrandenburg and in 1965 in BSG Post Neubrandenburg. In sporting terms, Uentz experienced in Neubrandenburg in 1962 the promotion of SC Neubrandenburg to the second-rate GDR league , in 1964 promotion to the highest GDR football league and in 1965 relegation back to the GDR league. As a standard striker, Uentz played a significant role in the promotion to the league, because with 26 goals he was not only the top scorer of his team, but also the top scorer in the GDR league. In the league season 1964/65 Uentz was less successful, because of the 26 point games of the Neubrandenburg he could deny only 17, and his goal yield was low with four hits. In the following season 1965/66 Uentz tried with his team, now starting as BSG Post, the immediate promotion. The strongest opponent was 1. FC Union Berlin, and of all people the Berliners brought Uentz into their team in March 1966. At that time, Post Neubrandenburg was only four points behind Union in second place in the GDR league.

At the end of the 1965/66 season, 1. FC Union had won the promotion battle against Neubrandenburg by six points. Uentz had played ten games and scored six goals. Then Uentz played with the Unionern three seasons in the league and was there of the 78 games in 65 games and scored 26 goals. Uentz experienced the high point of his career on June 9, 1968 in the final of the GDR soccer cup . In the 2-1 victory of 1. FC Union over FC Carl Zeiss Jena , he played a major role when he equalized the Jena lead with a penalty in the 29th minute. In the seasons 1967/68 and 1968/69 Uentz was the most successful goalscorer of his team with eleven goals each and always ended up in fourth place in the top division hunters. In 1969, Uentz experienced relegation from the league for the second time in his career, but was immediately promoted and stayed in the league until he left in the summer of 1973. From November 1972 to April 1973 Uentz gave a short guest appearance at the district league club BSG Lok Bergen . For Union he had brought it to 112 league games with 36 goals. Between 1970 and 1972 Uentz was the Unioner's team captain.

After Uentz had finished high-performance sport at the age of 35, he played for one season in the 2nd team of Union Berlin in 1973/74 and in 1974 moved to the GDR league promoted Stahl Finow . Uentz ended his active career at the Berlin BSG Kabelwerk Oberspree , whose team he led as a temporary player-coach from 1977 to 1979 from the district class to the GDR league. Later, Uentz settled in Rostock , where he still took part in the league game of the Rostock FC in 2003 .
