The VfL Bergen 94 is a German multi-utility club from Bergen auf Rügen . The home of the club is the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Stadion , which can accommodate 4,000 spectators.
Club (soccer)
VfL Bergen was founded in 1938 as a Bergen unit . After the dissolution in 1945, the club was re-established as Rugia Bergen after the end of the war . In the period that followed, further name changes took place, in 1949 in KWU Bergen and from 1951 in Einheit Bergen .
With the entry of the Deutsche Reichsbahn as a carrier company , the general sporting conditions improved. The club from the island of Rügen was renamed BSG Lokomotive Bergen in 1961. In 1971 Lok Bergen was promoted from the Rostock district league to the GDR league . Lok had to leave the second highest division of the GDR after only one season together with unit Grevesmühlen . In 1974, Bergen managed to return to the league again with a narrow lead over Motor Wolgast . If the renewed immediate relegation in the 1974/75 season could still be prevented, the Rüganer had to relegate to the district league in 1976.
In 1989 Lok Bergen relegated to the fourth class district class and was integrated into the regional league after the fall of the Berlin Wall. At the same time, the club played from 1990 under the name ESV Bergen . In 1994 the name was last changed to VfL Bergen 94 . From the nineties onwards, VfL commuted between the state league and the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania association league , in which Bergen played from 1995 to 1999 and from 2004 to 2006. The current division is the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regional league.
