from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Günther Fuchs (born September 26, 1940 ) is a former German soccer player. He usually played as a goalkeeper, but played his only game in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football , in 1965 for BSG Motor Steinach as a field player.

Athletic career

The former goalkeeper of the Betriebssportgemeinschaft (BSG) Aufbau in Mengersgereuth-Hammern guarded the gate of BSG Motor Steinach in the 1961/62 football season and rose with it from the third-class II. DDR-Liga to the I. DDR-Liga . There Fuchs had to deal with three other goalkeepers in 1962/63 and was only used in one league game. Motor Steinach surprisingly managed to march through to promotion to the GDR league, but Günther Fuchs was not part of the first team's squad for the 1963/64 season. In the season 1964/65 Bernd Florschütz was determined to be number one in the Steinacher Tor and also played all 26 league games. When the regular striker Emil Kühn was out for several game days in the second half of the season , coach Heinz Leib used his substitute goalkeeper Günther Fuchs as a left winger in the match between Motor Steinach and Wismut Aue (1: 2) on the 23rd game day . It was Fuchs' last job for Motor Steinach, and he did not appear in the higher leagues later either.
