Athletic career

At the age of twelve, Ernst Weiser began his career as a football player in Leipzig in 1951 . As a 22-year-old, he moved to the upper division BSG Lokomotive Stendal in 1961. The 1961/62 season ran from January 1961 to June 1962 over 39 rounds, since GDR football returned to the fall-spring rhythm from 1962. Weiser was used as a striker in eight matches from the 16th to the 29th matchday. At the end of the season Lok Stendal was determined to be relegated from the league. In the GDR league season 1962/63, Weiser played a subordinate role with only three stakes. After Stendal had managed to get promoted again, they played in the league again in 1963/64, but also in this season Weiser was only a substitute and was only used in eight league games. In 1964/65 he benefited from the long-term injury of defender Manfred Felke and was called up in 16 of the 26 point games played. When Felke returned to the Stendal league team at the beginning of the 1965/66 season, Weiser initially remained unused in the first half of the season. Since the team had to be rebuilt in the second half of the season due to the failure of midfielder Henry Weißkopf , Weiser came in the second half of nine league missions, in which he came after his first league goal in 1962 to the second goal. Weiser was not used in the final of the GDR soccer cup , which Stendal achieved in 1966 but lost 1-0 to BSG Chemie Leipzig . In contrast, he played his most successful season in 1966/67. He played 21 of the 26 league games played, in which he was first called up as a striker and later as a defender. In addition, he came to his third major league. In his last season in the 1st team of the BSG Lok, Weiser had to complain about numerous failures and only made eleven league matches. After 76 appearances in the Oberliga and GDR league as well as three point goals, Ernst Weiser ended his career as a football player in the performance area in the summer of 1968. Later he worked as a trainer, most recently for many years at FSV Lok Eberswalde.
