Strohmeyer rose three times with the red-blacks from the Altmark in 1958, 1960 and 1963 in the league. He and his team made an immediate return in 1958 as runner-up with Meister Chemie Zeitz. Kurt Liebrecht distinguished himself as a 12-time goalscorer, Wilfried Klingbiel followed internally with eleven goals. Even in the second league year of Strohmeyer, 1959 , Stendal could not prevent relegation. The midfielder completed 24 rounds and coach glasses was dismissed on October 11, 1959 and Kurt Weissenfels took over as coach in the last eight league games. At the side of captain Kurt Liebrecht and coach Weißenfels, the immediate return to the league succeeded in 1960. As a half-forward, Strohmeyer scored three goals on August 28, 1960 in a 9-1 win against progress Meerane. As the top scorer in the runner-up from Stendal, attacker Emanuel Linkert stood out with 17 goals.

In 1966 he was with his club under coach Martin Schwendler FDGB cup finalist ; but the Altmarkers lost 1-0 to Chemie Leipzig. In the league it was enough to 12th place in 1965/66 . In the GDR youth selection, he came to ten missions and scored two goals. Successful players in the team from the Wilhelm-Helfers-Kampfbahn in Stendal were Gerd Backhaus , Kurt Liebrecht and Ernst Lindner.

After relegation in 1967/68 from the league, Strohmeyer did not return to the first class of the league with Lok Stendal.
