It remained with this one league use in the 1959 season (calendar year season), in 1960 he was not used in the league at all. Only in the 1961/62 season, which was due to the return to the autumn-spring rhythm of play from January 1961 to June 1962 in the league with 39 games, Karow returned to the top division. He represented injured strikers in six matches between matchday 16 and 26. He also took part in the second leg of the second round of the ASK in the European Cup with the Glasgow Rangers (1: 4) as a left winger. After Karow had finished the season by winning the new ASK championship, he was released from the army and joined the company sports community (BSG) Lokomotive Stendal. The Stendal were previously relegated from the league and played in 1962/63 in the second-rate GDR league , where Karow was only used in eight games, but with three goals contributed to the promotion. In the league season 1963/64 he captured a regular place as a striker with 24 appearances in 26 point games, which he was able to defend until 1969. In 1966 he stood with the BSG locomotive as a half-left striker in the final of the GDR soccer cup , which the Stendal team lost 0-1 against BSG Chemie Leipzig . In 1969 Lok Stendal was finally relegated from the league, Karow remained active for three seasons with the Stendalers in the GDR league, but had to give up his regular place in the first team in the last two rounds. After he had played ten GDR league games in 1970/71, he ended his career as a competitive athlete. Between 1959 and 1971 he had played 127 league games (31 goals) and 58 GDR league games (13 goals). In the 1970s Karow was still active with the 2nd team in the third-class district league Magdeburg .
