Rudi Bätz (born May 30, 1944 ) is a former German football player. In the 1960s he played for Motor Steinach and Wismut Gera in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

As a teenager, Rudi Bätz played in the company sports club (BSG) Aufbau in the hunting yard in southern Thuringia . At the age of 17 he moved to BSG Motor Steinach for the 1961/62 season, which at that time was playing in the third-class II GDR league . After the Steinacher were promoted to the first GDR league at the end of the season , Bätz was already used in 13 of 26 league games in the first team in the 1962/63 season, which surprisingly promoted promotion to the GDR as a newcomer -Oberliga made it. In the following two league seasons, Bätz failed to make the leap into the Steinacher team. In 1963/64 he played eight, in 1964/65 five point games.

After Steinach had to relegate from the league in 1965, Bätz moved to the league competitor Wismut Gera. With 26 appearances in 30 GDR league games (II. GDR league set) and three goals, he was instrumental in the league rise of the Wismut team. Also in the league season 1966/67 Bätz was regular player of BSG Wismut with 20 stakes in 26 games played. This could only hold up a year in the league, and in the following GDR league season Bätz was involved with 17 inserts in only a little more than half of the 30 point games.

After seven league matches in the first half of the 1968/69 season, Bätz returned to Motor Steinach. The team was still represented in the GDR league, and Bätz immediately won a regular place with 13 point matches. He kept this in 1969/70 when he played 24 of the 30 point games. Then it disappeared almost completely from the scene by 1973 (1970/71 2 games, 1971/72 no use, 1972/73 8 games). After ten league games in the 22 game season, Bätz returned in 1974/75 with 19 league games back to the Steinacher team. After this season, the team had to relegate the district league. Rudi Bätz took this as an opportunity to end his career as a football player.

Immediately after the end of his football career, Bätz started a career as a trainer at his former BSG Aufbau Jagdshof. There he coached the soccer team, which was now playing at the district level, until 1980. In 1999 he took over the position of trainer in Jagdsdorf for a short time.
