Kindia is a city in Guinea , at the foot of the Gangan Mountains.

It is the capital of the Kindia prefecture in the Kindia region and is located at the junction of National Road 24 from National Road 1. The distance to the capital Conakry is around 85 km to the outskirts and 112 km to the center.

history

Kindia was founded in 1904 by the French as a railway junction on the Conakry – Kankan railway line . It was and is a trading center for agricultural products such as cattle, rice, bananas, pineapples, citrus fruits and palm oil, which are kept or grown in the area.

education

The General Staff of the Army, the administration of the Kindia military zone and the officers' school for all branches of the armed forces are located in the Kèmè-Bourema barracks near the city center.

A little outside the city (7 km), the Guinean Pasteur Institute has been located since 1925, which conducts research, produces vaccines and runs a snake farm. After the new building started in November 2016, the headquarters of the Pasteur Institute in Guinea are now in Conakry.

In 1961 the National School of Agriculture and the State Research Institute of Fruits were created.

Sports

The Gangan FC plays in the country in the second highest football league.
