1. FC Nürnberg became the first in the 1967/68 season of the German Bundesliga and thus German men's championship .

Season overview

Under coach Max Merkel , 1. FC Nürnberg - then record champions - won their ninth German championship. It was the last title win for the club until the cup win in 2007 .

The Karlsruher SC and Borussia Neunkirchen were relegated to the regional league.

The top scorer was Hannes Löhr from 1. FC Köln with 27 goals.

Substitutions have been allowed since this season . The first substituted player in Bundesliga history was the goalkeeper of the HSV , Özcan Arkoç , in the match against Werder Bremen on Matchday. In the 20th minute he was replaced by Erhard Schwerin .
