Franz "Goldköpfchen" Brungs (born December 4, 1936 in Honnef ) is a former German football player and coach .
career
Franz Brungs started playing football at FV Bad Honnef . After playing for 1. FC Köln between 1958 and 1960 , he had his first successes in the years before the start of the Bundesliga in 1963 as a center forward at Borussia Mönchengladbach, with whom he won the DFB Cup final on October 5, 1960 . For Borussia he was used 88 times in the Oberliga West. He scored 36 goals during that time.
In the summer of 1963 he moved to Borussia Dortmund for the premier season of the Bundesliga , with whom he won the DFB Cup in 1965 (although he was not used in the final). For Dortmund, he played 54 appearances in the Bundesliga in which he scored 23 goals. In 1965 he moved to 1. FC Nürnberg for a transfer fee of 75,000 marks , with whom he became German champion in 1968. He scored 50 goals in 97 Bundesliga games for the club. After he was retired from the club by coach Max Merkel , Brungs was still active for Hertha BSC between 1968 and 1971 . There he was used in 84 Bundesliga games in which he scored 24 goals. He scored a total of 97 goals in 235 Bundesliga games. In the 1971/72 season he played again for the club in the Regionalliga Süd.
In connection with the Bundesliga scandal, in which Hertha BSC players were also involved, Brungs was suspended for two years in 1972. He was pardoned in 1973. Nevertheless, he ended his active playing career.
His greatest moment in the Bundesliga was on December 2, 1967, when he scored five goals against Sepp Maier in the 7-3 win of 1. FC Nürnberg against Bayern Munich .
After his active career, he worked as a coach for various clubs, before ending this career in 1995, so that he could also take care of the lottery business he ran. He looked after Kickers Offenbach , SpVgg Fürth , KSV Hessen Kassel , Spvgg Büchenbach, 1. FC Herzogenaurach , VfB Coburg , SpVgg Bayreuth , FC Stein and VfL Frohnlach, as well as MTV Ingolstadt and 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 .
After more than 50 years of marriage, his wife passed away. He passed the lottery business he ran to one of his sons and helped out there temporarily.
