The VfL Frohnlach is a sports club from Frohnlach (municipality Ebersdorf bei Coburg ), of the sport of football offers.

history

Founded in 1919 as SC Arminia Frohnlach , after merging with the Frohnlach gymnastics club in 1925, the club first renamed the Verein für Leibesübungen 1919 e. V. Frohnlach . At times fistball , gymnastics and cycling were also practiced. As a member of the Workers' Gymnastics and Sports Association , VfL was banned by the National Socialists in 1933, and there was another TV Frohnlach until 1945 . When it was re-established at the end of 1945, the name was initially Allgemeine Sportvereinigung Frohnlach , and in 1948 the company returned to its current name. The soccer team played in the district classes of the Coburg district until the local upholstered furniture manufacturer Willi Schillig took over the presidency in the mid-1970s , who was also the most important sponsor until his death in 2013 . Three consecutive promotions from 1978 to 1980 brought the club into the Bayern League, at that time the highest amateur league, and in 1979 it was the only time to qualify for the main round in the DFB Cup . Often smiled at as a "village club" but also envied, VfL belonged to the Bayernliga 1980–90, 1992/93, 1994–99, 2004–07, 2008–10 and 2011–17.

Venue

Since June 28, 1958, the club has played its home games on the “Am Wirtsteich” sports grounds. It is about a kilometer outside the village south of the B 303 . The Waldstadion was inaugurated at the same location in 1980, a typical amateur football stadium with a covered grandstand on one long side; right at the opening game against 1. FC Nürnberg it was sold out with 5,000 visitors. In the meantime, it has also served as the venue for two international matches of the German junior national teams for women under 20 and under 21 . In addition, the club has a second grass pitch and a hard court. All three places have floodlights.

For the 2006/07 season the Waldstadion was renamed “Willi-Schillig-Stadion”.
