Willi Schillig

Willi Schillig (born January 15, 1927 in Seehof near Lichtenfels , † March 31, 2013 ) was a German entrepreneur and founder of the upholstered furniture manufacturer W. Schillig .

Career

Schillig attended the basket weaving school in Lichtenfels from 1941 to 1944. He was then called up for military service and released from American captivity in August 1945. In 1946 he started his own wickerwork business. Initially, he produced laundry chests, wicker armchairs, and later corner benches and chairs. In 1969 he expanded production to include leather upholstered furniture. As a result, his company rose to become one of the leading upholstered furniture manufacturers in Europe. Today it produces with more than 1250 employees at locations in Frohnlach , the Czech Republic, Hungary, China and the United States.

In addition to his entrepreneurial activity, Schillig acted as a patron of the football club VfL Frohnlach , which he led from the B-class to the Bavarian League at the end of the 1970s . The Waldstadion he built was renamed the Willi-Schillig-Stadion in 2006 .
