Harald Spörl

Harald "Lumpi" Spörl (born October 31, 1966 in Bamberg ) is a former German soccer player .

Life

At a young age Spörl played for VfL Frohnlach and 1. FC Bamberg . He moved to Hamburger SV at the express request of the then coach Ernst Happel . Since the midfielder in the Bundesliga played exclusively for HSV for over 14 years, he is considered a "HSV veteran ". Spörl was known as a technically adept, powerful player whose specialties included precise free kicks and corner kicks. Mostly he acted in the right midfield, but towards the end of his Bundesliga career he was also more often in the central position of playmaker.

Spörl played 321 Bundesliga games from 1987 to 2001, in which he scored 60 goals. His best season was in 1995/96 when he led HSV into the UEFA Cup with 14 goals (including 4 penalties) - a remarkable number for a midfielder .

At this time he was also in the extended circle of the national team , for which he was never used. His nickname has been "Lumpi" since he was 10 years old.

In the 2001/02 season he played for the second division LR Ahlen in the 2nd Bundesliga. From July to December 2002 he coached the Bavarian league club Bayern Hof . He then worked as a player- coach in the district league at 1. FC Hersbruck until the end of the 2004/05 season .

Spörl has been working as a scout at HSV since 2002 .
