Edmund Bien

Edmund Bien (* 31 May 1927 in Ruppertsberg , † 25 January 2007 ) was a German football - referee .

For more than 20 years since 1952, he worked as a referee and line judge at around 500 football matches at national and international level, including numerous Bundesliga games from 1963 to 1972 , where he was mostly on the line. Between 1967 and 1970 he was also used 6 times as a referee at Bundesliga matches. Highlights of his career were, among other things, his appearances as line judge at the European Cup games SSC Napoli - Odense BK and Aris Saloniki - Juventus Turin (both 1966).

After his active career as a referee, Bien worked for 14 years as district referee, then for 12 years as district referee chairman; also for many years as a referee observer for the Southwest German Football Association and the Southwest Regional League Association .

In addition to his work in sports, Bien was also active in local politics. In the Verbandsgemeinderat of the community of Deidesheim formed in 1972 , he held a seat for 27 years (1972-1999). He also acted as first alderman for 17 years (1972-1989), then until 1994 as second alderman. In his home town of Ruppertsberg, Bien served on the local council for 20 years.
