Oberliga Süd

The striker, who was born in Kalchreuth, not far from Nuremberg, played at the club in the Oberliga Süd from 1958 when he dared to jump into the league from TSV Gleißhammer . After his debut year 1958/59 he was consistently in the regular formation and by the end of the Oberliga era 1962/63 he had 117 games and 81 goals for the German record champions at the time. In his second season in 1959/60 he was top scorer in the south with 30 goals in 28 games. After winning the southern title, 1. FC Nürnberg also brought the German championship in 1961 to Noris. In the south, Heinz Strehl was successful with 22 goals, Rudolf Brunnenmeier and Stein had each scored 23 goals. In the final on June 24, 1961 in Hanover against Borussia Dortmund , which was considered the favorite, he marked the final score in the 67th minute with a 3-0 win.

In 1962, thanks also to Strehl, the title was successfully defended in the south, and on August 29, the DFB Cup victory - again in Hanover - was celebrated with a 2-1 win against Fortuna Düsseldorf . Since in the 1961/62 series there were also games to be played in the European Champion Clubs' Cup , Heinz Strehl and his comrades were constantly busy as contract players in the major league. In the European Cup, Nuremberg made it to the quarter-finals and Strehl was one of the top five goalscorer with 7 goals.
