Claudio Sulser (born October 8, 1955 in Lugano ) is a former Swiss football player who has been a lawyer and sports official since the end of his active career .

Career

Sulser moved from FC Mendrisio-Stabio to Vevey-Sports in 1973 . On January 1, 1977, he signed the Grasshopper Club Zurich , where he was committed for nine years as a striker and four times national champion. He then moved to FC Lugano to end his career in his homeland in Ticino. As a center forward, Sulser scored many beautiful goals, performed acrobatic tricks, was a good penalty taker and above all - from opponents and, because of his idiosyncrasy, from fellow players - a feared master of dribbling. In the game against England (1981) he scored a goal after missing four opposing defenders in a tight space.

Sulser survived several forced breaks, including four knee operations, and in the 1978/79 season was the top scorer in the European Championship (today: UEFA Champions League ).

Sulser played a total of 49 international matches for the Swiss national football team and scored 13 goals.

At the height of his career he refused a financially lucrative engagement in Italy - also with regard to his professional training. During his active years as a top footballer, Claudio Sulser completed a law degree, which he completed with a doctorate. Today he works as a lawyer in Lugano and is president of a private bank in Ticino. As a sports official, he is, among other things, a member of the specialist commission for combating doping of the Swiss Olympic Association .

From 2010 to 2012 he was chairman of the ethics committee of the world football association FIFA . In May 2013, he was elected chairman of the Disciplinary Committee at the FIFA Congress in Mauritius and became a member of the FIFA Working Group against Racism and Discrimination.
