Alfred Herberth (born December 26, 1955 in Dachau ), nicknamed Charly , is a former German soccer player who was initially under contract with TSV 1860 Munich (1974–1981) and later with FC Aarau (1981–1991) in Switzerland .

career

Career at 1860 Munich

Alfred "Charly" Herberth played as a child in the junior teams of SSV Dachau Ost and was later accepted into the youth team of TSV 1860 Munich. From this he was promoted to the professional squad in 1974. In his first season in the professional team of the Munich Lions (1974/75) he was only used seven times and scored only one goal. Just one year later (1975/76) he made 16 appearances and three goals. In the promotion season 1976/77 he was an integral part of the team and one of the guarantors for the return of the club to the Bundesliga after seven years. That season he was used in all the league games and scored five goals. Only in the three promotion games against Arminia Bielefeld was he only used for a total of 55 minutes for tactical reasons. In his three years playing in the Bundesliga, however, he did not succeed too much. In total, he played 53 games (out of 102 possible) and scored four goals. His most successful year in the dress of the Munich Lions he had in the second division season 1978/79, when he was also used in all 38 point games and scored eleven goals.

Career at FC Aarau

After the Bundesliga relegation of the sixties at the end of the 1980/81 season, Herberth moved to FC Aarau, which at that time had just been promoted to the top Swiss division (and to which he belonged until 2010). In his first season at FC Aarau Herberth won the last time discharged this year Ligacup (1982). Three years later, his club won the Swiss Cup competition (1985) and was named the best foreigner in the Swiss league . With a total of 340 competitive games, which Herberth played in FC Aarau until the end of his active career in 1991, he is the club's internal record holder.
