Rolf Osterwalder

Rolf Osterwalder (born September 4, 1954 ) is a former Swiss football player .

Osterwalder, who can be used both as a defender and as a midfielder, began his career in 1975 at Neuchâtel Xamax .

After six years in Neuchâtel, he moved to FC Aarau , where he was under contract for almost his entire career. In the National League A , he was used in 234 games for Aarau and scored eleven goals. He achieved his greatest personal success in 1985 when he and Heinz Hermann were voted Swiss Footballer of the Year . The two players each received 69 votes, making it the first time that two players shared the title.

His greatest successes with FC Aarau in 1982 were winning the League Cup , taking part in 1988 in the UEFA Cup as well as a participation in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup . Osterwalder was unsuccessful in the two international competitions and dropped out of the competition with the Aargauer in the first round. The opponents 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig and FK Roter Stern Belgrade turned out to be too strong.
