Ernst Wechselberger (born January 26, 1931 , † January 18, 2013 in Lucerne , Switzerland ) was a German football player .

career

The striker played for TSV 1860 Munich from 1951 to 1954 (42 games, 22 goals) and then moved to Duisburg's SpV in the Oberliga West . In his first year he scored twelve goals this season in 30 missions, in 1955/56 he was not given permission to move to Switzerland and then made no more games for the club that season. The then DSV captain Willi Koll :

At that time the DSV had a patron and the club once asked me, because I was the captain, whether they should pay the Wechselberger 5000 DM so that he could stay. I said you couldn't do that. You couldn't pay one DM 5000 and simply give nothing to the other. I also said we needed Wechselberger, he was our center forward and a really good one. Then I said if nobody found out, I wouldn't talk about it either. "

- Willi Koll

The following season was the most successful round of the scorer when he reached the runner -up in the Western League with the game club in 1956/57 and thus moved into the final round of the 1957 German soccer championship. There he and his teammates Willi Koll , Walter Münnix , Rolf Benning and Hans Lohmann took second place in the group with 4: 2 points behind Hamburger SV . He scored four goals in the three finals against HSV (1: 1), 1. FC Saarbrücken (3: 1) and 1. FC Nürnberg (2: 2).

In the summer of 1957 he left for Switzerland. Coach Albert Sing guided Ernst Wechselberger to the Young Boys Bern , where he replaced Kurt Linder as storm leader and was Swiss football champion three times in a row with the club from 1958 to 1960. In 1958 he was the top scorer in the National League A with 22 goals . In addition, he was in the semifinals of the European Cup with the Bernese in 1959 . For the club, “Wächseler”, as he was called, scored a total of over 100 competitive goals.

Back then in Bern, we had an excellent team under Albert Sing. When I didn't score, there were Willy Schneider , Geni Meier , Toni Allemann and others. Many of us were at the top of the scorer list back then. "
