Rolf Blättler (born October 24, 1942 in Uster ) is a former Swiss football player whose greatest success was winning the Swiss championship with FC Basel in 1972. He was also used in 28 games for the Swiss national football team and was three times top scorer in the National League A.
society
In 1963 Rolf Blättler moved as a contract amateur from the Aargau club FC Wettingen to the Grasshopper Club Zurich , for which he played until 1969 and with whom he became Swiss runner- up in the 1967/68 season . During his time in Zurich, he was the top scorer in the National League A three times in a row . In 1964/65 he shared the title with Pierre Kerkhoffs , both of whom had scored 19 goals. When he was top scorer in 1965/66, Blättler had 28 goals, while in 1966/67, when he and Fritz Künzli were at the top of the top scorer list, 24 goals were required. In 1969, Blättler moved to Ticino and joined FC Lugano , whose jersey he wore for two seasons. His greatest success during this time was reaching the Swiss Cup final in 1971. There, however, Lugano failed at Servette FC Genève . At his next stop, FC Basel , he lost the cup final again in the 1971/72 season, but was able to become Swiss champions during that season with the Basel team . Blättler contributed 7 goals in 18 games to the championship of the Red-Blue. During the 1972/73 season, the offensive player moved to the east of Switzerland for FC St. Gallen . In the five seasons in which Blättler was active for St. Gallen, the club was mostly in the lower middle of the table. The greatest success in this period was participation in the final of the Swiss Cup in the 1976/77 season. There the green-whites drew the short straw against BSC Young Boys with 0: 1 and thus Blättler recorded the third lost cup final in his vita. In 1977, Blättler signed with FC Luzern , who under Albert Sing was aiming for promotion to National League A - Lucerne was relegated to National League B in 1975 . The Lucerne team only succeeded in doing this under Sing's successors Paul Wolfisberg and Josef Vogel in the 1978/79 season. After the promotion, Blättler returned to Ticino and let his active career as a player-coach at FC Locarno end there. In total, Blättler played 332 games in National League A and scored 174 goals.
National team
Blättler's work as a trainer in Locarno did not go unnoticed by his former companion Wolfisberg. When Switzerland was looking for a coach for the U-21 national team in 1984 , Wolfisberg approached Blättler and hired him as a new coach. Blättler held this office until 1986, before he was inherited by Kurt Linder .
But Blättler was also active as a player for the Swiss national team. Blättler, who was then playing for the Grasshoppers, made his debut on October 22, 1966 in a friendly against Belgium in Bruges. The following year was already the most successful of the attacker in the "Nati". Blättler scored five goals in six missions. Two of them each in the qualifying games for the 1968 European Championship against Romania (in Zurich ) and Cyprus (in Lugano ). However, Blättler was unable to take part in major tournaments and so the 14 appearances in qualifying games for European and World Championships remain Blättler's only competitive games for Switzerland. In total, Blättler played 28 international matches for the "Nati", in which he scored 12 goals.
