The FC Wettingen was in Wettingen beheimateter club of the Swiss Football Association SFV . The association was founded in 1931 and dissolved in 1993 due to bankruptcy . It was re-established as FC Wettingen 93 in the same year and no longer has the addition of 93 in its name since the beginning of the 2012/13 season .

history

FC Wettingen was first in National League B in 1969 and thus rose to National League A for the first time, but rose again at the end of the 1969/70 season together with FC St. Gallen . In 1982 the promotion succeeded again and Wettingen was initially able to establish itself in the National League A. The second relegation followed in 1987, where the club managed to return to the top division a year later.

The 1988/89 season was the most successful at national level: FC Wettingen finished fourth and qualified for the UEFA Cup . There they met in the second round on SSC Napoli , in which Diego Maradona played, and reached a 0-0 in the first leg (held in Zurich), but were eliminated in the second leg in Naples with a 2-1 defeat.

In 1992 the third relegation from the National League A followed. After the 1992/93 season, the club was dissolved for financial reasons and began with the new name FC Wettingen 93 in the 5th division . In 2012 the club changed its name back to FC Wettingen. The successor association now has 600 members. In terms of sport, he managed to win the Aargauer Cup in the 2006/07 season and now plays in the 2nd Interregional league. In addition to the first team, FC has a further 21 teams, 17 of which are junior teams.
