The FC Locarno is a Swiss football club from Locarno , most recently, of several decades in 2014 , played in the two highest Swiss leagues and in 1951 the Cup final reached. After going bankrupt in 2018, he currently plays in the 4th division.
FC Locarno was founded on July 1, 1906 by immigrants from German-speaking Switzerland and one from Ticino. FC Locarno has played in the top two football leagues for several decades since 1929 . The greatest club success was reaching the Swiss Cup final in 1951, in which they lost to FC La Chaux-de-Fonds .
In the last few decades the club played mostly in the first division , the third highest division. In 1998/99 and since 2005/06, however, in the National League B and the Challenge League. In the 2013/14 season, the FC Locarno, with the 10th place at the bottom of the table, rose again in the first division promotion . After three relegations within four years, FC Locarno played in the second division interregional in 2017/18 before the club filed for bankruptcy on January 18, 2018 . As a result, FC Locarno will be returning to play in the ninth class 5th division in the 2018/19 season .
