Dario Zuffi (born December 7, 1964 in Winterthur ) is a former Swiss football player and football coach .

Career

player

Zuffi began his career as a junior at the Winterthur district club FC Töss . From there he moved to FC Winterthur , where he made a significant contribution to promotion to National League A with his 15 goals in the 1983/84 season together with his strike partner Urs Egli (12 goals) . For the Winterthur, however, it was not enough to stay up in 1984/85 and the left-footed player moved to the capital to the BSC Young Boys .

Zuffi played at YB for six years. In his first season after the move, he won the Swiss championship (football) together with the Bernese , and in the following season they won the Swiss Cup . His personal coronation as a striker finally took place in the 1990/91 season , in which he was the top scorer in the National League A with 17 goals from 32 games. At the same time he was once again in the cup final.

At the beginning of the 1991/92 season , Zuffi switched to FC Lugano in Ticino . With the Bianconeris he reached the Cup final in his first season and won the Swiss Cup for the second time in his career the following season.

After winning the Cup with Lugano, he switched to FC Basel in the National League B, with which he was promoted to the National League A. In the National League A, Zuffis changed positions at Basel: From 1995 to 1997 he was employed as a left-back and in the 1997/98 season in the central and defensive midfield.

Since Basel did not want to extend his contract until the last game, the Winterthur man returned to his hometown the following season to his first professional club FC Winterthur, which has meanwhile been relegated to the third-class first division and helps the club with seven goals in eleven Playing in the immediate return to the National League B. There he completed the last season of his active career in 1999/00, in which he was used again in all possible positions (striker, midfielder, libero ).

In his active career, Zuffi came to almost 400 NLA games and 88 NLB games and scored a total of 161 goals. In addition, from 1986 to 1997 he played 19 times in the dress of the Swiss national team and scored 6 goals.

Trainer

After his career he became a coach at FC Winterthur. First he looked after the U12 juniors from 2000 to 2002, then from 2002 to 2004 the U16 team. From 2003 he was coach of the U21s of FC Winterthur, with whom he mastered the promotion to the then third-class first division . Apart from a break between 2011 and 2014, this is him again today with Umberto Romano .

In addition, he was also used on various occasions as a supervisor for the 1st team. From 2008 to 2014 he worked as an assistant coach under coach Mathias Walther , for the last two games of the FCW season 2015/16 he was interim coach of the 1st team together with Romano, and he has been performing the same interim function again since February 2017. However, Zuffi does not have a higher coaching diploma and does not want to do so, which means that he can no longer work as head coach for the first team.

From January 2013 to September 2014 Zuffi was also the assistant coach of the Swiss U-21 national team , at the same time he also kept his assistant position at FC Winterthur.
