← Federal Cup 1933 |
The Adolf Hitler Cup in 1933 was the first regional selection competition to be held and served as the successor to the Federal Cup that was held until 1933 . In this competition, teams from the 16 football regions competed in cup mode. Cup winners were the Bayern team , which defeated the Berlin-Brandenburg team 6-1 in the replay. The actual final ended 2-2 after extra time.
history
In June 1933, the German Football Association decided to hold a football cup competition for a cup donated by Reich Chancellor Adolf Hitler , in which teams from all 16 districts should take part. The Gaue already existed as a geographical entity, but the football game operation had not yet been reorganized, so that the implementation of the competition was still the responsibility of the seven regional state associations. The exciting and competitive games of the elite of German football hoped for by the DFB did not materialize, the players were tired at the end of the season and exhausted from the season games, and the newly formed selection teams mostly still lacked ties to their fellow players.
The team from Pomerania , considered to be the weakest in addition to the East Prussian national team, caused a surprise, defeating Nordmarks 1-0 after extra time in the preliminary round . However , the team from Westphalia , which had eight players from FC Schalke 04 , was unlucky, as they did not get more than 1-1 in the preliminary round against the team from Saxony and ultimately lost the decision by lot. The favorite teams of Bavaria and Berlin-Brandenburg, who had beaten relatively easy opponents in the competition with the teams of East Prussia, Pomerania and Mitte, made it to the finals. The final game on July 23, 1933 in the Grunewald Stadium ended 2-2 after extra time, so a replay was necessary. The game played on August 6, 1933 at Giesing Heights also remained goalless at halftime. After Georg Frank from Fürth scored the opening goal shortly after half-time , Berlin's defense collapsed completely and Bayern finally won 6-1.
In the coming season, the Gau selection competition was held within the German Combat Games 1934 , the competition has therefore been handed down as the 1934 Kampfspiel-Pokal .
