The Air Force Sports Club Gütersloh (short LSV Gütersloh ) was a sports club from Gütersloh . The first soccer team once took part in the competition for the Tschammer Cup, which was a predecessor to the DFB Cup . The handball team played in the first-class Gauliga Westfalen .

history

Nothing is known about the foundation or emergence of the association. The members were recruited from the families of the Air Force , in the environment of the local air base were stationed. With the end of the Second World War , the LSV Gütersloh was dissolved.

Soccer

In 1942 the Gütersloh footballers caused a sensation in the third Westphalian qualifying round for the Tschammer Cup when they beat Gauligist Borussia Dortmund 4-1 and qualified for the competition at the national level. There the Gütersloher met Gauligist Arminia Bielefeld in the first round and clearly lost 4-0 at the Bielefelder Alm . No further sporting success is known.

Handball

The handball players rose in 1940 to the Gauliga Westphalia and were there in 1941 and 1942 each runner-up in the group north behind MSV Hindenburg Minden . In 1944 the Gütersloh team became champions of the relay and met PSV Recklinghausen in the finals for the Gaume Championship . After both teams won their respective home game, a playoff was scheduled in neutral Hamm , which Gütersloher lost 4-7.
