Dimitar Ivanov Berbatov ( Bulgarian Димитър Иванов Бербатов , English transcription / FIFA spelling Dimitar Ivanov Berbatov ; born January 30, 1981 in Blagoevgrad ) is a former Bulgarian football player . He is the record goal scorer for the Bulgarian national soccer team and has been named soccer player of the year in his home country seven times. Berbatow played five years in Germany at Bayer 04 Leverkusen and eight in the English Premier League , in which he won two league titles and five national cup competitions.

CSKA Sofia

Dimitar Berbatow was discovered by former Bulgarian international Dimitar Penew when he was still playing for Pirin Blagoevgrad's youth team . At the age of 17 he joined CSKA Sofia , where his father also played. In the 1998/99 season he made his professional debut in the A Grupa , the top division of Bulgaria. In his first year as a professional he scored 14 goals in 27 games and nine goals in eleven games in the 2000/01 season.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen

In January 2001 he finally moved to Bayer 04 Leverkusen in Germany . Tottenham Hotspur

AS Monaco

In the national team

Berbatow was an active national player and also team captain of his country. He took part in the 2004 European Championship in Portugal with the Bulgarian national team.
