Ronnie Rooke

Ronald Leslie "Ronnie" Rooke (born December 7, 1911 in Guildford , † July 1985 ) was an English football player and football coach .

life and career

Rooke began his career at Crystal Palace in 1932 in the second team. In 1936 he moved to Fulham FC . There he became one of the Cottagers' most successful goal scorers at the time. Due to the Second World War , his career was interrupted. Rooke served in the Royal Air Force during the war , although he continued to be an active participant in football. During this time he was used in an unofficial international match for England against Wales . In 1946 - after the war - the striker was signed by Arsenal FC . On his debut for the Gunners, he scored his first goal on December 14, 1946 against Charlton Athletic . With Arsenal FC he was English champion in 1948. In 1949 he returned to his ex-club Crystal Palace as a player-coach. Two years later, he became a brief coach for Bedford Town. After end of his career as a footballer Rooke still working as a porter at the airport of Luton . Ronnie Rooke died of lung cancer in 1985 at the age of 73 .
