Kiprijan Berbatow ( Bulgarian Киприан Бербатов , at the World Chess Federation FIDE Kiprian Berbatov ; born August 6, 1996 in Blagoewgrad ) is a Bulgarian chess player .

Life

His trainer is the international master Jordan Ivanov . He played club chess in Bulgaria for Lokomotiv Sofia , in France for Cavalier Fou Bressan Montrevel and in Spain for Main Memory Silla .

Kiprijan Berbatow is a cousin of the football player Dimitar Berbatow .

successes

At the U10 European Championship in 2005 in Herceg Novi , he was third. He won a gold medal at the U12 European Championship in 2008, also in Herceg Novi. In November 2006, at the age of ten, he won the 14th Nikolas Baharow Memorial , a category 3 tournament, in Sofia with 6 points from 6 games and 1.5 points ahead of two international champions ( Karin Karahenjanow and Krasimir Rusew ) could win. At the European Chess Championship in April / May 2008, he defeated Julian Radulski for the first time, a grandmaster at the age of eleven . In January 2010 he won the XXI. Open Internacional in Roquetas de Mar in front of Fernando Peralta .

At the 2010 Chess Olympiad in Khanty-Mansiysk , he played eight games for the Bulgarian national team as a reserve player.

He has held the title of International Master since September 2009, as the youngest Bulgarian to succeed. Although he had already achieved the necessary standards in August 2008 , he did not achieve the required Elo rating until a year later. He achieved the norms within less than four weeks in Spain : at the 9th International Chess Open in July 2008 in Arteixo with overachievement , at the 24th Albarino Open in August 2008 in Cambados and the 7th Open Internacional Ayuntamiento in Ortigueira, which began one day later . Berbatow is listed as inactive at FIDE because he has not played a rated game since the U16 European Championship in September 2011.
