Preliminary round

In the preliminary round four teams played against each other in three groups. The winner of a game received two points, the loser one point. If a game was tied at the end of regular time, there was extra time.

Final round - Cali

After the preliminary round, the first two teams in each group qualified for the final round. Host Colombia was directly qualified for the final round.

In the final round, all qualified teams met each other. Results of matches that already took place in the preliminary round have been adopted. The first two of the final table played for the gold medal in the final, the third and fourth placed teams played for the bronze medal in the game for third place. In the event of a tie in the final table, the direct comparison of the teams determined the placement.
