Fotis Katsikaris ( Greek Φώτης Κατσικάρης , born May 16, 1967 in Korydallos , Greece ) is a Greek basketball coach and former player.

Career as a player

Fotis Katsikaris began his training as a basketball player with Ionikos Nikeas . At the age of 15 he gave his premiere in the top division of the Greek championship. This was followed by a stay in the USA from 1986 to 1988. After returning from the United States, Katsikaris first played for two years at Sporting Athens before moving to AEK Athens in 1990 . There he played a total of six years. After another two years with Iraklis Crete , he ended his career as a player.

Career as a coach

Katsikaris began his coaching career in the coaching staff of the AEK Athens as an assistant coach first to Dušan Ivković and then to Dragan Šakota . During this time, AEK won the Greek Championship (2002), the Greek Cup twice (2000, 2001) and the Saporta Cup in 2000 . At the beginning of the 2003/04 season, Katsikaris was appointed head coach. He reached second place in the Greek championship and the last 16 round of the Euroleague with AEK in the 2004/05 season . Then Katsikaris moved to the Russian club BK Dynamo from Saint Petersburg . In the 2005/06 season he was third in the Russian championship and fourth in the Eurocup with Dynamo . After only two years of gaming, Dynamo went bankrupt in 2006. Katsikaris signed with Valencia in October 2006 . After Valencia could not advance to the Spanish top under his leadership, he was dismissed after the start of the 2008/09 season. In October 2009 Katsikaris got a new job as a trainer for Aris Thessaloniki . He led Aris into the last 16 round of the Eurocup, but resigned in January 2010 after a loss to the "archenemy" PAOK after only 100 days. A few days later he took over the Spanish club CB Bilbao Berri . In the same season he reached third place in the Eurocup with Bilbao. In the next season (2010/11) he was second in the Spanish league. In December 2012 it was announced that Katsikaris will coach the Russian national basketball team in addition to Bilbao , but Katsikaris resigned from this post due to quarrels with the Russian Federation before the start of preparations for the EM 2013 . In the Eurocup 2012/13 he reached the final with Bilbao, which was lost to Lokomotive Kuban Krasnodar . Even before this final he was named Eurocup Trainer of the Year.

After finishing his engagement at Bilbao Basket, he took over as the main responsible person for the Greek national basketball team at the beginning of June 2014 . From the 2015/16 season, the UCAM Murcia club team . He led this to seventh place at the end of the main round and thus to his first participation in a final round of the Spanish championship. For this he was honored with the award for coach of the month May in the ACB league. For the 2016/17 season he had accepted a job with Lokomotive Kuban , but ended it again after a few weeks. In mid-January 2017, he returned to UCAM Murcia . He left this in the summer of 2017 in favor of Hapoel Jerusalem . At the beginning of November 2017, the club announced that they had separated from coach Katsikaris by mutual agreement. In the same month, he was presented as the main person in charge at Iberostar Tenerife.
