The Pabellón Insular Santiago Martín is a multi-purpose hall in the Spanish city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna , province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife , on the largest Canary Island of Tenerife . The sports arena has been the home ground of the Iberostar Tenerife basketball club since 2010 and offers 5100 seats. It also houses the club's offices. The plant belongs to the Island Council of Tenerife. It is operated by the island administration for sport, culture and leisure ( Spanish Gestión Insular para el Deporte, la Cultura y el Ocio , IDECO).
history
The hall was inaugurated April 20, 1999. The two clubs, Tenerife Club de Baloncesto (men's basketball) and Club Voleibol Tenerife (women's volleyball ), which have now been dissolved , played their home games in the sports arena. In April 2017 it was the venue for the Final Four of the Basketball Champions League 2016/17 . Iberostar Tenerife won the final against the Turkish club Banvit Bandırma with 63:59. After winning the Champions League, the Intercontinental Cup took place in Pabellón in November of that year . The home team won 76:71 against the Venezuelan team of Guaros de Lara . In February, the four games of the Intercontinental Cup 2020 were played in Tenerife. Iberostar Tenerife was able to celebrate victory again in front of its own audience. The Italian representative Segafredo Virtus Bologna lost with 80:72. In 2018, the hall, next to the Pabellón Municipal de Deportes Quico Cabrera , was the venue for the women's basketball world championship , which took place in Tenerife. In it group matches and the final round were played. The US team secured their tenth world title by beating Australia in the final (73:56). The Supercopa de España de Baloncesto ( German- Spanish Basketball Super Cup ) is scheduled for September 12 and 13, 2020 in the Pabellón Insular Santiago Martín. Next to the host Iberostar Tenerife, TD Systems Baskonia (champions), FC Barcelona (runner-up in the championship) and Real Madrid (cup winners) the winner will be played out.
