The Palacio de Deportes José María Martín Carpena (previously: Palacio de Deportes de Málaga ) is a multi-purpose hall in the southern Spanish city ​​of Málaga , Andalusia .

history

The Palacio de Deportes de Málaga was inaugurated in 1999. A year later it was named after the politician José Maria Martín Carpena of the Spanish People's Party Partido Popular . On July 15, 2000, the Basque underground organization ETA carried out an attack on Carpena. He was fatally shot in front of his house.

The arena has been the sporting home of the Unicaja Málaga basketball club since it opened . The event hall has a maximum audience capacity of 11,300 seats. In addition to the Unicaja Málaga games, the facility is also used for other sporting events. Find it u. a. Motocross , freestyle motocross , motorcycle trials , futsal and horse shows take place. The 2003 Davis Cup semi-finals were held in the Málaga arena. The Spanish Davis Cup team defeated the Argentinians 3-2 games.
