The Coliseum Burgos is a multi-purpose hall in the Spanish city of Burgos in the autonomous community of Castile and León . It has been the home of the San Pablo Burgos basketball club since 2017 and offers 9,352 seats. Until 2015, the facility was called Plaza de Toros de Burgos and is mainly used as a bullring . The event hall is located in the city's sports complex next to the Estadio Municipal de El Plantío , the home ground of the Burgos CF football club .

history

Construction of the facility began on October 18, 1966. Eight months later, the inauguration was celebrated on June 18, 1967. It offered 12,277 places and the construction costs were 27,296,037.79 pts . In 2013, Mayor Javier Lacalle announced the planned construction of a new multi-purpose arena. Due to high costs, this project was discarded and it was decided to renovate the Coliseum with a roof. On June 27, 2015, the first bullfight took place in the modernized and sold-out arena.

In the summer of 2017, the Coliseum had to be adapted to the requirements of the highest Spanish league, the ACB league , after San Pablo Burgos was promoted. His first game was San Pablo Burgos on October 1 of the year against Iberostar Tenerife from (65:81).

On November 26, 2017, the national basketball teams of the men of Spain and the reigning European champions Slovenia (92:84) met in the Coliseum as part of the qualification for the 2019 World Basketball Championship .
