Valentim Fagundes de Meneses
Valentim Fagundes de Meneses MSC (born July 22, 1953 in Agualva , Praia da Vitória district ) is a Portuguese religious and appointed Roman Catholic Bishop of Balsas .
Life
Valentim Fagundes de Meneses joined the congregation of the Sacred Heart Missionaries . He then studied philosophy at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Campinas and Catholic theology at the Papal Theological Faculty Nossa Senhora da Assunção in São Paulo . Fagundes de Meneses put on 2 February 1979, the profession , and received on 2 July 1982, the sacrament of Holy Orders .
After being ordained a priest, Valentim Fagundes de Meneses first worked as parish vicar and from 1986 as pastor of the parish of Pai Eterno e São José in Rio de Janeiro . In addition, he was assessor of the Brazilian Conference of Religious in Brasília from 1984 to 1988 . From 1989 to 1991 Fagundes de Meneses worked as a pastor in El Salvador before he became pastor of the parish Imaculada Conceição in Nova Iguaçu in 1992 . From 1992 to 1996 he also worked as a trainer for the philosophy students of his religious order in Belford Roxo and taught pastoral theology at the Philosophical-Theological Institute Paulo VI in Nova Iguaçu. In 1997 Valentim Fagundes de Meneses became pastor of the parish of Nossa Senhora das Dores in Floresta do Araguaia and instructor at the Minor Seminary in Conceição do Araguaia . From 2002 to 2007 he was pastor of the Buen Pastor de Turubamba parish in Quito . After Fagundes de Meneses briefly worked as parish vicar of the parish of Nossa Senhora do Sagrado Coração in Contagem in 2008, he became pastor of the parish of Nossa Senhora da Ajuda in Monte Formoso in 2009 .
From 2012 to 2014 Valentim Fagundes de Meneses was Vice- Provincial of the Religious Province of Rio de Janeiro of the Sacred Heart Missionaries and pastor of the parish of Nossa Senhora do Sagrado Coração in Praça Seca . In 2014 Fagundes de Meneses became Provincial of the Order of Rio de Janeiro.
On July 29, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Balsas.
