The Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas ( Portuguese : Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Campinas ) is a Brazilian university under papal law .

The university was founded in 1941 in Campinas in the Brazilian state of São Paulo , about 100 kilometers north of the city of São Paulo . In 1955 it was recognized as a university, and in 1972 by Pope Paul VI. recognition as a university under papal law.

Around 20,000 students are taught by around 2,500 professors and lecturers. The rector is Wilson Denadai , the vice-rector is Angela de Mendonça Engelbrecht.
