The Universidade Fundação Mineira de Educação e Cultura ( FUMEC ) is a Brazilian private university in Belo Horizonte .
The Foundation for Education and Culture in Minas Gerais was established in 1965 and initially set up two faculties (business sciences and engineering and architecture ). This was followed by an expansion with a faculty for human sciences. In 2000, the independent faculties were merged into a Centro Universitário FUMEC, which received university status in 2004.
The Universidade Fumec offers around 36 courses and training programs at various levels of secondary and tertiary education. Today it is divided into three areas: the Faculdade de Ciências Humanas, Sociais e da Saúde (FCH), the Faculdade de Engenharia e Arquitetura (FEA) and the Faculdade de Ciências Empresariais (FACE). FACE is the first Brazilian university institution with which Apple entered into a cooperation in Latin America in 2011.
The sociology and political scientist Eduardo Martins de Lima has been the rector since 1985.
Around 15,500 students were enrolled in 2009; in 2012 the number of students is given as around 13,500.
In the national Brazilian university ranking RUF ( Ranking Universitário Folha der Folha de S.Paulo), the university ranks 107th (as of 2012).
